What is administrative police?
Administrative police is the legal means by which the administration acts to preserve public order in all its forms (public safety, public health and public peace) within its powers.
Types of administrative police
General administrative police: all measures taken to preserve public order; it applies to all activities without distinction.
Special administrative police: powers granted by law to a given authority in a specific field, such as planning control or premises open to the public; it applies to a specific group.
Main areas of administrative police
- Public health, hygiene and environment: protecting public health and keeping streets and squares clean, health standards in housing and public premises, classified establishments.
- Traffic police: street sweeping, lighting, removal of obstructions, freedom of movement, demolition or repair of buildings at risk of collapse.
- Regulation of burials, exhumations and transport of bodies.
